It appears Nixon and his family will stay here through the Thanksgiving holiday, but Ziegler refrained from any official announcement of the holiday plans. THANKSGIVING DAY generally think of Thanksgiving Day having begun with tht first 1 Thanksgiving dinntr calebrattd in this country, whan Governor Bradford of the Plymouth colony issued the first Thanksgiving proclamation. Many of our traditions date from that famous occasion, including the family turkey dinner, for the colonists went out and shot turkeys for dinner that day. But Thanksgiving as national festival celebrated by the whole country on the same day began in 1863, with Abraham Lincoln's Thanksgiving proclamation. At a time when the nation wos torn by Civil War, Lincoln was still moved to set oside the last Thursday of November 'as day of thanksgiving ond praise to our beneficient Father who dwelleth in the It it not only when skies ore tunny ond days are happy ond prosperous that men need to thank Cod ond praise Him.
