(AP) President Nixon, launching his second week at Camp David, scheduled a day-long series of conferences today with six top administration officials to map second-term plans.

As the President stepped up reorganization operations at his Maryland mountaintop retreat, Press Secretary Ronald L. Ziegler joined his boss for the forthcoming week. Ziegler said he was canceling his daily White House briefings for the duration of his stay at Camp David. It appears Nixon and his family will stay here through the Thanksgiving holiday, but Ziegler refrained from any official announcement of the holiday plans. Nixon, accompanied by his wife and daughters Julie and Tricia and son-in-law Edward Cox, returned to Camp David Sunday after giving last-minute instructions to peace negotiator Henry A.

Kissinger before the latter's departure for Paris. Summoned to Camp David for conferences today were United Nations Ambassador George Bush, Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare Elliot L. Richardson, Cost of Living Council Director Donald Rumsfeld, CIA Director Richard Helms, Agriculture Secretary Earl Butz and special presidential consultant Leonard Garment. Nixon had similar meetings with Vice President Spiro T. Agnew and five Cabinet members here last week, discussing efforts to streamline some federal operations and to plan changes in personnel for his second term.

Top court rejects Democrats paddling appeal organizing WASHINGTON (AP) The Supreme Court today rejected an appeal that school teachers in Dallas, had deprived students of their "fundamental liberties" by striking them with paddles and tennis shoes as punishment. The appeal was made by the parents of two high-school students, Douglas Ware and Roderick Oliver. The Oliver youth was allegedly knocked unconscious by an assistant principal who was subsequently suspended, according to papers in the case. The Court turned down the plea for a hearing without comment and over the objection of Justice William 0. Douglas.

The complaint was dismissed last year by U.S. District Court Judge W. M. Taylor of Dallas, who said, "It is not within this court's function, or individual competence, to pass judgment upon the merits of corporal punishment as an educational tool or a means of The U.S. Circuit Court in New Orleans ruled last May it was "in agreement" with Judge Taylor, which led to the appeal to the Supreme Court.

Many of our traditions date from that famous occasion, including the family turkey dinner, for the colonists went out and shot turkeys for dinner that day. But Thanksgiving as a national festival celebrated by the whole country on the same day began in 1863, with Abraham Lincoln's Thanksgiving proclamation. At a time when the nation was torn by Civil War, Lincoln was still moved to set aside the last Thursday of November 'as a day of thanksgiving and praise 10 our beneficient Father who dwelleth in the the Pacific Plains region the central clear to Coast tonight.
