Police said the cuts were inflicted with a box cutter. Arthur Aguayo, 40, was arrested on two counts of attempted murder and lodged at Linn County Jail. William K. Holm, 22, of Bend, and Christopher L. Driscoll, 23, of Albany, were both treated at Samaritan Albany General Hospital for lacerations on their necks and released.

According to an Albany Police report, Holm and a group of friends arrived at Lum Yuen on Friday between 11:30 p.m. and midnight. After spending some time dancing, Holm. sat down at the bar and said to a friend, "I'm beat, I'm tired." Then, according to the report, Aguayo turned around and said, "Did you call me a beaner?" Holm told Aguayo that wasn't what he'd said, but Aguayo allegedly slapped him in the neck. At first, Holm said he didn't realize he'd been cut, then saw that his neck was bleeding where Aguayo had slapped him.

According to the report, Driscoll saia he was outside in the parking lot of the restaurant, preparing to leave, when Aguayo asked for a ride in his car. Driscoll refused, and Aguayo allegedly cut him in the neck with a box cutter. Aguayo began to walk away, but police had arrived by that time and arrested him. The report stated the cut on Holm's neck was 11 centimeters long and required 22 stitches. The cut on Driscoll's neck was 9 centimeters long and also required 22 stitches.
