ALBANY (OR DtMOCRAI I ILHAID. TUESDAY, SLPT. 4, 2001 A LBANY'M ID-VALLE Community Calendar Beuford Silbaugh March 23, 1926 Sept. 2. 2001 Beuford Arless Silbaugh 75, 'I of Albany died Sunday surrounded by his family.

Born in Agar, S.D., he was the son of Beuford Arless Sr. and Rosella (Olson) Silbaugh. Mr. Novak worked in Albany for seven years for the Portland Western Railroad. He enjoyed archery hunting and fishing and loved animals. He married Evonne Holmes on Nov. 16, 1998, in Albany.

She survives. Also surviving are son Jareth Daniel Holmes of Sweet Home; daughters Emily and Lidia Novak of Sweet Home; parents Sebastian and Ilona of Claremont, brother Joseph of Alhambra, and sister Debbie Crockett of Lebanon. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Workman Steckly Funeral Chapel, 1443 Long Sweet Home. Leonard Truett Sept.

13, 1921 Sept. 2, 2001 Leonard Truett, 79, of Lebanon died Sunday at home. Mr. Truett was born in Havana, the son of Zeek and Johnie Mae (Carpenter) Truett. He lived in Arkansas and Oklahoma before moving to California at age 16.

He was drafted into the Army and served during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to Arkansas and married Fay Johnson on May 22, 1944, in Havana, Ark. They lived in Arkansas, Texas and Los Angeles, before moving to Lebanon in April of 1969. Mr. Truett was an upholsterer, and he owned his own upholstery business in Albany before retiring in 1983.

He attended the Lebanon First Assembly of God and belonged to the Santiam Post of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing. Surviving are wife Fay; brother Bonnie of Oklahoma; and sisters Yvonne Edwards, Bernice Bryant and Rosie Hendrix, all of Oklahoma, and Eoline Lee of Arkansas. There are three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. No services are planned Contributions in Mr.

He served in the Army during World War II. He and Helen iBanley) Silbaugh were married for 40 years before she died. He married Montank on Oct. 1, 1988, in Albany. Mr.

Silbaugh was an agricultural researcher for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 25 years. He worked in maintenance for the Albany School District for 12 years. Mr. Silbaugh belonged to the Kpiscopal Church and was a member and former post commander of the American Legion; he was a search and rescue advisor for Explorer Scouts and a Boy Scout troop leader.

His favorite pastimes included gardening, visiting the coast and feeding the seagulls, mall walking and working in his shop. He was very fond of his poodle, Duchess. Surviving are wife Carol; sons Bill of Arlington, Texas, and Mike of Redmond, stepson M. Foster of Albany; stepdaugh ters Pamela Foster of Albany and Elizabeth Foster of Lebanon; brothers John Silbaugh South Dakota and Fred Silbaugh of Minnesota; sister Vanita Reinbold of Kalama.oo, and grandchil Carpenters' picnic brings together workers' groups Corvallis area as a morale booster for carpenters' union members. But Monday's picnic wasn't all fun and games.

Two members of the Oregon Public Employees Union, which represents non faculty employees at the state's universities, were also on hand to drum up support for their union's possible strike by Sept. 17. If contract mediation sessions today and Wednesday are unproductive, the uniori plans to vote Thursday whether to walk off the job. It would be the first strike against Oregon1 universities by the OPEU since 1995. Deborah Dombrowski, president of the local Corvallis branch of the OPEU, said the two unions have a history of supporting each other, adding that the picnic was a good way to build mutual support.

"It's a good idea," she said. "In unity there is strength. Besides, these guys always have good food." For the Albany Democrat-Herald On Monday, the mid valley carpenters' union put the labor back in Labor Day. In a decade long tradition, Local 1094 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America held a Labor Day picnic at North Albany Park. In addition to grilling burgers and playing games, roughly 50 people mostly union carpen ters and their families used the holiday cele bration to build solidarity with other union groups.

"It helps them meet the families of their coworkers and get to know the people better," said Hon Arehart, president of the Corvallis based Local 1094. 97321. Dorothy McClure Jan. 19, 1921 Sept. 2, 2001 Dorothy L. McClure, 80, of Sweet Home died Sunday at Albany Care Center.

She was born in Denver, the daughter of Robert and Viola i Bowles i Howell. She grew up in Colorado and later lived in Roseburg for three years before moving to Sweet Home in 1954. She married Earl D. McClure on April 20, 1945. He died Sept.

14, 1998. Mrs. McClure was a homemaker. who loved to read. She attended church at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Sweet Home.

Surviving are son Louis Gellette of Independence; daughters Alice Braaten of Eagle Point and Linda Tenbuseh of Sweet Home; 14 grand children; and many great-grandchildren. Sons Harold Angel and David Angel and siblings Viola Howell and Phillip Howell preceded her in death.
