I a a ALBANY DEMOCRAT-HERALD, FRIDAY, MARCH 14, 2008 -VALLEY www.democratherald.com Ruth Louise Beight Dawson Sept. 14, 1914 March 12, 2008 Ruth Dawson, 93, of Albany died Wednesday at Lydia's House. She was born in East Palestine, Ohio, the daughter of John and Olive (Duff) Beight. She attended North Albany Grade School, Central Junior High and Albany High School. She received her teaching certificate from Oregon Normal School in 1934 and her Ruth Bachelor of Dawson Arts in 1961 from Oregon College of Education.

Ruth worked for one year in the Government Works Project pre-school nursery in Albany and Klamath Falls. She was offered a teaching contract at Fairmount School in North Albany and taught all eight grades in the one-room school. She taught in several other rural schools and spent her last 19 years of teaching at Grand Prairie School, retiring in 1973. Ruth married Paul Dawson on Dec. 27, 1938, in Woodland, Wash.

They spent many of their retirement winters in Southern California and Arizona. Paul preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1998. She was a member of the Whitespires United Presbyterian Church, South Albany Community Church, Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher's Honorary Sorority and Gideon's International Auxiliary. She volunteered with the SMART program helping children read.

She had many hobbies, including sewing, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, gardening and painting with water colors and oils, and traveling abroad. Ruth is survived by daughter Julia Dawson Keizur and husband Jim of Springfield; son John Dawson and wife Cheryl of Hillsboro; grandchildren John Keizur and wife Kim of Pullman, Michael Keizur of West Linn, Holly Driggers and husband David of Austin, Texas, and Jennifer Forsyth and husband Jay of Guam; and eight great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Driggers, Ian Driggers, Sophia Forsyth, Callen Keizur, Cameron Keizur, Christopher Keizur, Erin Keizur and Garrett Keizur. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Don and Paul, and sisters Kathryn, Esther and Doris. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at South Albany Community Church.

Interment will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to South Albany Community Church or Gideon's International in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 Washington St. S.W., Albany, OR 97321. Jay R. Nedry Jr.

Nov. 16, 1916 March 11, 2008 Jay R. Nedry 91, of Salem died Tuesday of natural causes. He was born in Enterprise to Jay R. and Fern (Parker) Nedry.

He married Nina H. Nedry on July 3, 1936, in Kelso, Wash. They were married 70 years, living in Warrenton, Albany and Salem, and spending winters in Arizona following retirement. He retired from Western Kraft. He was a member of the Elks.

He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and golf. Survivors include sons Jay R. Nedry III of Corvallis and Ronald E. Nedry of Temple, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 18 greatgrandchildren. Wife Nina preceded him in death in August 2006.

A service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Restlawn Funeral Home in Salem. Memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer's research. Service notice Betty Bureau, 85, died Feb. 19.

The family of her son, Thomas Humphrys of Albany, will hold a memorial service at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Refreshments and her memoirs will follow the service. OBITUARIES Louise B. Cook April 26, 1916 March 12, 2008 Louise B.

Cook, 91, of Harrisburg died Wednesday in Eugene. She was born in Hillsdale, to William and Leona (Sickels) Barnes. She lived in Linn County most of her life. She married Merle W. Louise Cook on June Cook 8, 1940, in Halsey.

She was a primary school teacher in Lane County at Vida, Leaburg and Coburg, and at Norton School in Lancaster. She is survived by sons William Walter Cook of Sammamish, and Robert Merle Cook of Harrisburg; daughter Darlene Ellis of Madras; brothers Lyn Barnes of Halsey and D. Barnes of Watsonville, nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Merle on March 23, 1993. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m.

Saturday at Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Alford Cemetery, with a celebration of life potluck afterward at Charity Grange, on Bond Butte Road in Harrisburg. April 15, 1923 March 12, 2008 John Minter Starr, 84, of Monroe died peacefully on Wednesday. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe. He was born there to Clyde Everett Starr and Julia Allen Minter Starr. He attended local schools and graduated from Monroe Union High School in 1941. John married Barbara Post at the Bellfountain Community Church on Jan.

31, 1943. For many years he was a dairy farmer and he later worked as an insurance agent, retiring in 2000. He loved to grow daffodils, had various collections, and loved his church and family. John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara, of Monroe; sons Jim and wife Jan of Junction City, Wilbur and wife Luanne of Albany, and Bill and wife Christa of Monroe; daughters Janette Blanton and Carolyn Kauffman, both of Albany; 12 31 great-grandchildren; and many foster children. He was preceded in death by brother Clyde Starr sister Mary Caryl Goin and great-granddaughter Miaele Starr.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bellfountain Community Church.
