Bright won the pole vault and 110 high hurdles, then ran legs on two relays that placed. His 16-1 pole vault, three Inches shy of Rick Anicker's school record, is a personal best and "should make him the leader in the nation (among junior colleges)," said Dave Bakley, the coach. Further. Bright ran a 14.1 In the high hurdles to break the conference record by four-tenths of a second; he cut five-tenths off his previous best. Said Bakley, "That's just an unbelievable improvement.

He ran a beautiful flight of hurdles. That time will probably put him in the top six in the nation." Bright wasn't an isolated case. Although Its teams failed to place higher than fourth, had many outstanding efforts. Lane won the men's meet, while Mt. Hood edged Lane for the women's title by two points.

Oregon walloped Oregon State 85-12 in the women's meet as Oregon's Leanne Warren edged Oregon State's Kathy Weston in winning the 800 meters in 2:03.0. Weston was timed in 2: 03.6.

Both set school records but they missed their goal the Olympic qualifying standard of 2:02.8. Warren fell back and waited and made her move rounding the last turn. "It was a smart thing for her to do," Weston said, "to wait back and try' again. Down that last 100 1 thought I had the ability to do what I had to do to win. but I guess I didn't." Oregon won all the women's events except the relays, the long jump and the high jump.

Colleen Gibson of Oregon State took the long jump in 19-7'j and teammate the shot put. She and Bright have already surpassed qualifying standards for na tionals In two events. now will compete at regionals, Friday and Saturday at Mt. Hood Community College In Gresham.
