Davies had been a sheetmetal worker before retirement. He attended the Presbyterian He married Mary E. James Nov. 17, 1914, at Scranton, Pa.

She died in 1958. Survivors include two daughters Sally Craig, Lebanon, and Janet Gilbert-son, Redbank, N.J.; two sons, Howard, Keansburg, and James, South Amboy, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren. Carl Propst Carl A. Propst, 71, 3800 Mount View Drive, died this morning at his home of an apparent heart attack. Funeral services are pending at Fisher Funeral Home.

Kenneth Nivens LEBANON Former Lebanon-area resident Kenneth R. Nivens, 51, more recently of Bend, died Sunday at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend of an apparent heart attack. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tabor's Desert Hills Mortuary in Bend.

Bishop Max Williams will officiate and burial will follow at Deschutes Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Oregon Heart Association. He was born April 1, 1929, at Sapulpa, and moved to Bend 17 years ago from Florence. Nivens owned and operated Ken's Signs in Bend. He married his wife, Bette, Aug.

18, 1963, at Bend. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth II, Salem, and Remmal, Bend; two daughters, Rhonda Thompson and Rhamee Nivens, both of Bend; his mother, Minnie Stewart, Lebanon; one brother, Lanny Nivens, Florence; and two Hl-Sunday'shlgh. AAsum Funeral Home is In charge of arrangements. He was born Oct. 31, 1898, at Salem, Ohio, and moved to Albany as a child. Wire served in the U.S. Navy aboard a mine destroyer In the Panama Canal during World War I.

During World War II he served as master-of-arms aboard the air craft carrier Altamaha. He had worked for the Forest Service in the Willamette National Forest; as a security guard at Camp Adair before World War II and at Picsweet Frozen Foods (StokJey Van Camp). He was a member of the Thoroughbred Horse Breeding Association. Survivors include two sisters, Roberta Malson and Margaretta Jones, both of Albany; three nieces; and one nephew. Jack Hale LEBANON John "Jack" Edward Hale, 58, 36460 Rockhill Drive, died Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital In Corvallis after a long Illness.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fisher Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Brock will officiate. He was born Jan.

15, 1922, at Green Bay, and had lived in the Lebanon area the past eight years. Hale had been a conductor for the Milwaukee Road Railroad. He was a member of McKinley Lodge No. 307 Milwaukee, Wis. Survivors include one cousin, Mickey, Lancer, Lebanon.

Pete Owens Pete Freeman Owens, 77, 3580 40th Ave. S.E., died Sunday at his home after an extended illness. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Visalia District Cemetery in Visalia, Calif.

He was born July 1, 1903, at Ennis, and moved to Albany in November of 1976 from California. Ownes had been a custodian at Stanford University before moving to Albany. He married his wife, Susie Jan. 6, 1923, in Oklahoma. She died Dec: 15, 1974.

Survivors include two daughters, Viola Pearl Coleman, and Ellen Sue Piasky, both of Albany; six sons, Waldon Roland, Marion, Junior Ray, Jefferson, Freeman Wayne, Whittier, Coy C. and Tillman Doyle both of Albany, and Alden Raymond, Santa Clara, 27 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Our heartfelt thanks to all who extended comforting sympathy and help in our recent sorrow. For the beautiful service, floral offering, food and other kindnesses we are deeply grateful. The freezing level in Oregon mountains rose from 6,000 feet to 8,000 feet as several Oregon ski areas reported wet conditions. Astoria reported 1.11 inches of rain, Newport had 1.62 inches and Portland 1.09 inches by early today. Highs ranged from 62 degrees in Salem and North Bend to a low of 36 degrees In Pendleton and Lakeview. Mild air over the state today will push temperatures in many areas to the upper 50s, which is 10-15 degrees above normal for this time of year. The high pressure system building over Oregon was brought morning fog and low clouds to much of the state.

Road conditions Mild temperatures kept most Oregon roads free of ice and snow today, but gusty winds created hazardous conditions for mobile homes and other vehicles on some strecbes. Oregon State Police said Interstate 84 at Meacham and The Dalles and U.S. 20 at Santiam Pass were closed to mobile home traffic because of wind. Some icy spots were reported on Interstate 84 at Ontario, U.S. 26 at Austin Junction, U.S.

Durlam, whose name was synonymous with Lebanon's famous strawberry shortcake for 43 years, died Saturday at Lebanon Community Hospital. Funeral services for Durlam, 67, 360 W.

A will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the First United Presbyterian Church. The Rev. James Freda will officiate and burial will follow at the Lebanon I00F Cemetery. Viewing hours will be until 8 tonight at Huston Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church. Durlam started working on the annual shortcake, advertised as the largest in the world, in 1934 when he went to work at Munyan's Bakery. He was born Dec. 28, 1912, at Lebanon, and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1932. He worked with the CCC in and joined the U.S.

Army in 1943, serving most of his enlistment at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Following his discharge he went to work for Shimanek's Bakery, formerly Munyan's, and resumed baking the shortcake. On March 1, 1948, he purchased Gray's Bakery at the corner of Main and Ash streets and operated in that location 15 years before moving Durlam's Bakery to 780 Main St. He sold the bakery in 1977. Lebanon's senior first citizen in 1974, Durlam was named grand marshal of the Lebanon Strawberry Fair parade in 1977 in recognition of his many years of service in baking the shortcake, and various community activities.

Durlam was past president of the Oregon Retail Bakers, Oregon Chapter of Bakery Engineers, and Lebanon Chamber of Commerce in 1959. He was a past member of Rotary Club, and Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department; and a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Lebanon Elks Lodge No. 1663, and American Legion Post No. 51. He had also taught hunter safety courses.

He married Hazel Snider July 18, 1936, at Lebanon. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter Susan Spiker, Lebanon; one son, Rodney, Lebanon; two brothers, Herbert, Houston, and Gene, Lebanon; one sister, Winifred Thompson, Lebanon; and four grandchildren.
