John Hansen.

Hansen stated that all 4-H club leaders and members are being asked to assist in this clean up in order that the building may be put in proper shape for the winter period and also will be ready for the spring shows which will be held by various dairy organizations early next spring. Hansen suggested that those participating in the work party should bring forks and rakes in order to remove all of the straw from the stalls and barns. Following the work party a short meeting will be held to dis cuss plans for the 1949 Fall 4-H Fair. LOCAL WOMAN ACCUSED OF DEATH THREAT IN SUIT HEBE Mrs. Oscar Nash has brought complaint into court here in which she charges Mrs.

Rachel Fry, Route 2, with threatening to commit a felony, specifically with threatening to kill the plaintiff. She has been released after posting $500 bail. A hearing will be held at which she will decide if she wants a preliminary hearing or to be bound over to the grand jury for further investigation. MISSIONARY MEETING The Women's Missionary So ciety of the Christian and Missionary Alliance church held a meeting at the home of Mrs. Garrett Mesman Thursday.

Dawson, 922 Wav- erly Drive, has enlisted In the army with the rank of corporal with the object of making the army his career.

He is the son of Mrs. Lena I. Dawson of Albany and the husband of Dorothy Smith Dawson. Dawson, who is a graduate of Albany high school, served three years in the navy from November, 1943 to November, 1945, as pharmacist's mate 31c. He was attached to a naval air base in the European theater.

He is a member of Albany lodge No. 359, P.O.E., and the United Presbyterian church. Before enlisting in the army Dawson was employed by the McDonald Candy Co. FIRE DEPARTMENT BUSY The Albany fire department responded to eight calls this week on fires and reports seven arr-bulance calls. Tuesday was the busiest day with four fires and four ambulance calls.

The truck was called to Tangent Thursday afternoon where a small shed was on fire. All blazes were mi nor ones with the exception of the fire that destroyed the Atke- son home at Riverside Tuesday SLATE OPEN HOUSE The Riverside school club is planning to hold an open house honoring teachers at the school Oct 2, from 7 to 8 p.m. Also be ing planned is a get-acquainted party at the hall for new mothers of the club, to be held Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. HOME FROM HOSPITAL George Doll has gone home af ter 15 weeks in the Albany General hospital for injuries suffered in an.accident.

Albany opened the football season with a bang at North Bend last Saturday by swamping their rivals by a 27 to 6 score. The North Bend team, was held scoreless until late in the fourth quarter when an Albany pass from Johnny Spreen to Basil Saunders was intercepted and run for a touchdown. Albany scored in first quarter after a sustained march from the 50 yard line with a 20- yard run by Bob Heins, a 12-yd. gain by Capt. Charles Keller and with Dick Graber going over for the first score.

The kick by Bob Heins for extra point was wide. The Bulldogs scored again in the second as the result of a North Bend fumble on the 35 yard line. The goal was crossed on straight line plays by fceller. Graber and Hems, ana me kick by Heins was good, making the half-time score u-u. In the second half Albany took the ball on their own 4S yard line and went right on down the field with Graber going over from the 12 yard line for the third score.

Heins made tne ex tra point again. Jim Jenks then thrilled the crowd by starting on his own 25 yard line and running 75 vards in a beautiful open field run with some good Diocmng. The trv for point was good, ma king the score 27 to 0. The in tercepted pass at this time gave the North ueno team oiuy score. M. L. DeWitt is building a new drive-in market at 15th and Elm streets, expected to be completed within 60 days. The present market is located at 2nd and Wash ington streets. The building, of pumice blocks, will be 40x50 feet on a lot 64x 113 so as to have ample parking space.
